Scoring

PTE gives you and your chosen institutions a detailed view of your English skills, in a quick, convenient format.

Your personalized Score Report and Skills Profile

When you complete your PTE Academic test, you receive a Score Report and a Skills Profile to help you understand your test score, your language skill level, and where you can improve.

What will I see on my Score Report?

  • an Overall Score of between 10 and 90, which grades your English ability against the Global Scale of English

  • individual scores for Communicative Skills – speaking, listening, reading, and writing

What will I see on my Skills Profile?

  • Guidance on your performance across eight language skill categories

  • Recommendations to help you further strengthen your English skills

How we assign scores

Each PTE Academic test has 20 question types. Each one is graded differently. Multiple choice answers are scored as either right or wrong, while scored for more complex question types like essay writing are based on many criteria.

What score do I need?

Each institution chooses how to set its scores. Typically, you will need to achieve the following minimum scores:

  • Foundation courses: minimum score of between 36–50

  • Undergraduate degrees: minimum score of between 51–60

  • Postgraduate degrees: minimum score between of 57–67

To find out the minimum score requirement at your chosen institution, check their website.

For visa applications, view our minimum required score guides for Australian visas, UK visas, and New Zealand visas.

Predict your potential score

The best way to find out how you might score on test day is to try a Scored Practice Test.

With the same type of content as the real test, and taken over three hours, a Scored Practice test will help you to predict your potential overall score. It will also help you understand your strengths and weaknesses, which you can use to shape your study plan.

Accessing and sharing your scores

Once you have completed your test, we will send you your score report within five working days – but typically within just 48 hours.

Accessing your scores

As soon as your scores are ready, we will email you to let you know. Then you simply sign in to your my PTE account (the same account you used to book your test) to see your digital score report.

You can then choose to share it with your chosen institutions straight away or at a later time.

Sharing your scores

Because your score report is digital, sharing it with your chosen universities and colleges is simple, secure, and fast – there’s no need to send a paper copy.

Sign in to your myPTE account, go to your score, and start the process to send it to your choice of institution and program. You can share your report with as many institutions as you like, for free.
